LONG BEACH YACHT CLUB

Constructed of Heavily Reinforced Concrete Piers

With its beachside location on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Long Beach Yacht Club was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The only thing remaining following the storm was the subterranean piling system. Utilizing the salvageable elements of the original foundation system, the new Club facility was designed to withstand the tremendous forces caused by a coastal hurricane and storm surge. The building is constructed of heavily reinforced concrete piers with a structural mat of cast in place concrete on top. A moment resisting steel frame provides support for the new, elevated Club facility.
